2017 Skincare Awards:
The Best of Drugstore + High End
As you know, 2017 has been the year of skincare for us. We really made a solid effort to find the best products for our skin type [which is combination skin] however, majority of these products can be used on multiple skin types and a few even come in different skin ranges. For example, the Paula’s Choice Moisturize Gel comes in three different forms for dry, oily and combination so if you see a product you like make sure to check out what skin ranges are available.
We have tried SO many new products [good and bad] and these badboys listed below have not only made it to the top of our list, but we love them so much they have managed to say in our line up all year long. These products have been used over and over and over again so many times that we can’t keep count. We will try and keep the notes on each of these short, sweet, and to the point, but our nerd level is so high right now we can’t make any promises.
Before we get started we have a few questions for you!
What is your favorite skincare brand or product and why?
Is there a product that should have made this list?
Do you have any recommendations for us?
Here are our 2017 Skincare picks:
Paula’s Choice Resist Body Lotion: If I could pick one item from this list as my ultimate favorite, this would be it. You know that annoying ‘chicken’ skin that is super bumpy and usually on the back of your arms or even legs? This product knocked it out of the park and reduced my ‘chicken skin’ by 80% in just 30 days [don’t worry we will have a full blog post with before and after pictures soon!]. I swear this product made me feel SO much more confident and comfortable in my own skin and I can’t thank Paula’s Choice enough for creating this amazing product.
Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream: Aside from the fact this cream smells so good, I feel like my bum actually feels tighter and smooth after each use. I usually don’t buy into the ‘tightening’ creams but this one actually makes my skin feel very healthy.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream: You know a creme is good when you get a man addicted to it [sorry Steven] but my fiance loves this lotion so much and so do I. It is one of the few hand creams that I actually like and have even repurchased multiple times. It is lightweight, non-greasy, fragrance free, and is great for sensitive skin.
Nivea Essentially Enriched Lotion: I first found this product because Desi Perkins [YouTube Goddess] swears by it and her skin always looks flawless. I am excited to say that ever since I first started using this lotion [back in January] that I have repurchased the large bottles numerous times and never travel without it.
Coconut Oil: I know what you are thinking. Isn’t coconut oil for cooking? Well, yes, but coconut oil is like the hidden gem of all things in life. Aside from the fact I love to cook with it, it works wonders on my skin and hair. I love to use it as a hair mask but most importantly when my random patches of eczema would pop up in college [because of the different weather] just a bit of coconut oil on those areas would make the patches instantly vanish.
Derma E Radiance Toner: Omg I love Derma E’s new line. Yes, I went to their event and received a ton of free product but that is not why their products are listed on this list. It is because I truly love their products. In fact I love their products so much I just became a Brand Ambassador! [Ahh!] Anyways, back to the toner, it is one of the few toners that doesn’t irritate my skin and actually removes any left over traces of makeup.
Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Moisture Gel: You are going to hear Paula’s Choice on this list a lot too because girl, you have no idea what their products have done for me! My night time skincare routine now consists of at least five Paula’s Choice Products depending on what treatments I need, at all times. This moisture gel balances my skin like no other. Seriously I love to use it before I apply any makeup primers or makeup to give my skin a healthy, balanced glow.
Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser: I cannot believe I didn’t discover this product until this year. This drugstore product is out of this world and so old school! It is one of the few cleansers that actually removes every single ounce of makeup. I kid you not. Seriously, after using this cleanser I barely have to use a toner to remove any remaining makeup.
Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion: You already know! My holy grail! I have talked about this product so much that you may be sick of hearing me talk about it. I use this product roughly one to two times a week and it makes my skin feel so unbelievably smooth [yes, like a baby’s bottom]. No other product compares but if you are looking for a seriously amazing dupe, then make sure to check out our list.
Paula’s Choice Radiance Renewal Mask: If are are looking for a mask that you can sleep in that isn’t too heavy or greasy, this is your new homegirl. I use this mask twice a week as the last step in my night time skincare routine and it has drastically changed my skin for the better. My pores feel tighter, my fine lines decrease, and it just gives so much life back to my skin. I can’t say enough good things about this product.
Neutrogena Oil-free Eye Makeup Remover: Another OG favorite! This eye makeup remover is one of the few products that always delivers on removing my makeup. Whether it is glitter eye shadows or brow gel, a single swipe of this product and all is removed. It’s been a staple in my cabinet for years for a reason!
First Aid Beauty Blemish Patrol Pads: These pads as well as the regular pads make my skin feel so refreshed. I also love that they help fight any breakouts and remove any excess oils. The non-blemish pads also smell like peppermint so I mean, that’s amazing.
Derma E Hydrating Day and Night Cremes: If you caught our travel checklist post, you already know we don’t travel without these two cremes. They are perfect for sensitive skin and they keep my face, hands, and neck feeling so soft and hydrated all day and night.
Tarte Maracuja Oil: This little baby is so powerful! The oil is lightweight and doesn’t make me feel like a giant grease ball when using it. I usually wear it at night to help minimize any fine lines and when I wake up I am always impressed with the results.
Paula’s Choice Perfect Cleansing Oil: I’ll be honest, I have a few favorite cleansing oils like Biossance and Tatcha’s but this one is so lightweight, has coconut in it, and doesn’t leave any oily vibes after using it. It is one of the lighter oils I have tried but that is why I love it because even though it is light, I always feel like it grabs all the dirt and makeup with just one use. This product actually isn’t out yet, so when it does come out make sure to grab one!
Tatcha The Water Cream: I will be forever thankful for the day I received a sample of this product! I can’t even describe how the texture of this cream feels but I will tell you my skin s-o-a-k-s up this cream. I love to apply this cream to my face before hitting the gym or running errands. It gives such a natural, beautiful glow that no foundation or face creams are even needed.
Derma E Radiant Glow Face Oil: I have a confession…I don’t use a ton of face oils. I have about 30 that I have received over the years but this is one of the few that I use if I have a bit of dryness. I actually use this product more for my hair and on dry areas of my body [like elbows, knees, and my feet] but my skin always thanks me after each use. Plus, it has little gold flakes… adorable!
Paula’s Choice Resist 10% Niacinamide Booster: Give me all the boosters! If you want to minimize pores and fine lines, then you need this product. This product has visually shrunk my larger pores. I kid you not. I have a few pores from when I was younger [and stupid and used to pick at my face] and the product is one of the few I have used that actually helps shrink those pores.
GlamGlow Volcasmic Matte Glow Moisturizer: Matte Moisturizer? Yes please! I originally got this product as a sample and loved it so much that I purchased the full size product. For me, that says something. Especially because this product is priced a smidge higher than the products I normally buy. I don’t know if it is because it smells so damn good or because I love the matte, hydrating effect but this moisturizer is top notch.
Hey Honey Take It Off Exfoliating Peel Off Mask: Hey Honey! As you know, I love my masks [see below] but seriously out of all the masks, this one is not only great for all skin types, but it makes my skin feel brighter, exfoliated and it’s fun to apply and remove so. 🙂 [ps, shameless plug: I love it so much they gave me a code! For 10% off your purchase use the code ‘FitChickHoney10’]
Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Eye Gel: Bow Chicka Wow Wa…So if you buy any product from this list, you need to buy this eye gel. Well, this and if you have ‘chicken skin’ then def buy the Paula’s Choice body lotion. Anyways, this applicator…OMG. I love that the applicator is cool as soon as you apply the product to your undereye [it does not have to be refrigerated!] and helps with puffiness but also I love that this product seriously helps minimize fine lines around my eyes.
Derma E Vitamin C Micellar Cleansing Water: I’ll take ten! Not only do I love the smell of this Vitamin C cleansing water but it is another product that always makes my skin feel so refreshed. I have tried a lot of different micellar waters over the year and this is the one I always grab.
