Review: My Makeup Brush Set
It’s finally here – the highly requested my make-up brush set review – aka the oval brush review.
Let me start off by saying I purchased this brush set with my own money and was not asked to do a review.
All of my reviews are my own honest opinions and this is not a sponsored post.
Description: “From highlighting to contouring, this 10 piece set gives you so many options for doing your makeup. The brushes have a round shake design that’s perfect for blending foundation, blush or powder to your face or cheeks. With so many different sized brushes to choose from, you can achieve any look you want!”
My Make-Up Brush is a company that sells a range of products. They have everything from makeup brushes to eye, lip and face makeup to hair tools and more. They were founded in 1998 but have recently gained popularity thanks to their oval brush set. I have yet to try any of their other products but was surprised to see the range they had available.
First of all, they come in all different colors but obviously I had to grab rose gold.
Price Point: $39.99! The website shows the original price as $400 – maybe if you bought the Artis ones – but I think that price is a little exaggerated. For $40 plus shipping the brush set is worth it. One single Artis brush ranges from $30-60+ USD.
Review: Overall, I am happy I bought this set. I do think the brushes are extremely soft and apply my foundation very evenly. They do have what feels like hundreds of very tiny, soft hair-like bristles. I also love that the set has brushes in different sizes and shapes. I have only used about 5 of the brushes in the set but the ones I have used provide almost like an airbrushed finish.
Pros: I do like that they are unbelievably soft. Like SO soft. My favorite brush is the large round foundation brush. It applies a full face of foundation in a few quick sweeps. I also like the concealer brush and the blush brush. They are a little smaller than the foundation brush so they let you get into smaller or harder to reach areas like under the eyes. I do like that it came with a lot of different brushes because no one has the same face. I love that the product – for the most part – doesn’t seep into the brush. A lot of times when you are first using brushes you have to apply a little more product because it gets buried. I love that you can apply blushes and powders with these as well. Lastly, I appreciate that they are animal-cruelty free.
Cons: I’m going to be honest. I didn’t love a few things. First, when applying the foundation, if you added a spray directly to the brush – like MAC fix+ or primer water – it literally moved your foundation in heavy smudge-like motions across your face. I also don’t love that the handles feel like if you press hard enough they could snap. Lastly, in the beginning there were a couple hairs that would come loose but wouldn’t leave the brush head so they had to be removed my pulling them with tweezer.
Favorite Brush: ‘Handle A’ – The large foundation brush.
How to Clean: So after I tried to wash my brushes – the way I normally do with cleaner and water– I realized that it wasn’t cleaning the brushes at all. It just made the foundation on the brush really, really thick. I googled how to clean them and the only way I found was to buy an Artis cleansing foam with the pad. Since I do not want to spend $25+ on a cleaner. I decided to try a baby shampoo [like how I clean my blenders] and a cloth which seemed to work.
Overall: This was my first purchase from My Make-Up Brush set and I am happy with the purchase. I wanted to use the brushes for a while before posting a review so I could give you guys an honest review and not just a one time impression. If I had to give this product a grade, I would go with a B+. The set is at a great price point and the different size brushes allow for all different uses.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed this review.
