Lashing Out: Our Favorite Mascaras EVER + Video Review
What is happening?
I don’t know about you but I am having wayyyy to much fun for a Tuesday (seriously, it’s weird).
Once again I am kicking fear in the face and trying something new because… #GIRLBOSS.
Today I am sharing my absolute-favorite-musthave mascaras.
Each of these mascaras have graced my lashes more times than I can remember – even some of the new-ish editions – so I have to share what has worked for me over the years.
I am talking everything from drugstore to high end to my first ever (and still a fave) mascara.
I try to rotate my mascara every couple of looks so I am literally always using all of these.
I have probably over 30 mascaras – gross, I know – but the fact that these have held their own over the years says a lot.
Below is my video review and some brush pics so you can really see what the brushes actually look like.
Oh and make sure to check out our Covergirl Super Size Fibers mascara review at the end of this post!
Tarte: Lights, Camera, Flashes Mascara:
Oh man. Starting out with a serious baddie here. I got this mascara in one of my Sephora favorites boxes and I’ve been hooked since. The brush itself is very different from the other brushes on this list. The bristles are a spread a little bit further apart and the actual mascara is a little heavier than the norm. I like this mascara because it adds length (for me) while still giving me volume (and trust me after reading this list you will realize I’m all about volume baby!)
Tarte: Tarteist Lash Paint:
Lash Paint is probably the newest edition to my collection of favorites but it is seriously dangerous and casually creeping up the list. I got this mascara from my Sephora points so the actual one sold in stores is much larger and in a better quality tube (the tube I have is kinda wonky and cheap). However, this ‘paint’ really does paint your lashes. It adds a nice thick layer without creating that spider lash look (you know what I’m talking about girlfriend). You actually can create that look if you want but it is personally not my style. Either way this mascara is SO unbelievable.
Dolce + Gabbana: Passioneyes Duo Mascara Curl and Volume:
Another mascara I got in a Sephora favorites box and another winner. I use this mascara every day (oops) but only on my lower lashes. I love that the wand is curved because my lashes have a crazy natural curl to them and it is smaller than some of the others on this list. The smaller wand allows me to get into my lower lash line without leaving a trail of mascara under my eyes.
L’OREAL: Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara:
If you follow any beauty blogger on YouTube then you already know…but I just had to add it. I actually only use this mascara when I apply my false lashes. Sometimes my natural lashes and the falsies don’t want to play nice so this mascara is so dark – hello carbon black – that it blends them together well so you can’t tell which are which. It isn’t heavy enough for regular use for me personally but it does give crazy volume. I like to really feel my mascara on my lashes but it still made the list because I use it every weekend (with my falsies). If you want to go hard then I would recommend Lash Paint or Sephora’s Dramatic Volume Mascara (listed below).
Covergirl: Lashblast Volume Mascara:
Ah! Okay so this was the first mascara I ever purchased. I was in high school and looking for something awesome and I just liked the orange tube (honestly). I still rotate it into my mix because it does give great volume for a drugstore mascara. If you are just starting out with makeup I highly recommend trying this mascara first.
Yves Saint Laurent: Effet Faux Cils Babydoll Mascara:
I got this mascara in another favorites box (what up Sephora) and I must say I am impressed. The wand is smaller than I normally prefer but the tiny bristles allow me to really get into my little and bigger lashes. I usually use this one first then go in for the kill with the YSL volume mascara below.
Yves Saint Laurent: Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara:
I believe I got this mascara in a different Influenster box a while back. It is pricier than most of my mascaras but I think it is worth the splurge. It reminds me of a cross between then Too Faced mascara and the Sephora Outrageous Volume mascara. I love this for a natural look but it also gives big, bold lashes too.
Smashbox: Full Exposure Mascara:
I literally have about seven of these and I’m not even mad about it. I will probably never have to buy this mascara because it is so popular it is in half of the favorites and starter boxes. It is great if you are looking to take the plunge from drugstore to high end. It gives pow without overpowering. If you are looking to make the switch then I highly recommend this mascara.
Too Faced: Better Than Sex Mascara:
I have a confession: I actually did not like this mascara at first. It took me a couple of times before I actually fell in love. I’m so glad I gave it another try because now it is one of my favorites. I have to buy another because there is little to no product left in my tube. The different size bristles really allows the product to get into my lashes.
Sephora: Outrageous Volume Dramatic Volume Mascara:
Guys! I’m not playing right now – this is my holy grail, favorite mascara. I have repurchased this mascara about 5 times (I think in the video I said 8 but honestly it is closer to 5). Yeah. It really makes my eyes POP and has the perfect formula. I swear. It gives incredible volume and if Sephora stopped making this mascara I don’t know what I would do. Actually I would continue to use the wand and just dip it in other tubes (don’t judge me) but that is how much I love it. If you buy any mascara from this list, buy this one. If you are not sure about which one you want, go to Sephora and try them out. The girls at Sephora are great and very helpful.
BONUS: Video + Review!
Before I start this review I want to let you know that all of my reviews are my own, honest opinions. I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. I did not add this mascara to the list because I have only tried it twice and this is my all time favorites list (after all).
Since I made the video above I have tried the Super Size Fibers mascara twice. I personally don’t love fiber mascaras. They tend to have a lot of fall out and with my lashes they don’t really do them justice. I have a lot of tiny lashes in-between my long, curvy lashes so for me I tend to like volume. The Covergirl Fibers mascara is FAB if you are looking for length. The wand is actually pretty small which I didn’t expect because the tube is massive but the formula is good (not too heavy and not too light) and it is at a good price (starting around $6). It reminds me of the Younique 3D Fiber Lash mascara so if you want to try a fiber mascara then I highly recommend this product.
Before + After:
The Perfect Point Plus Eye Pencil is great. It reminds me of my absolute favorite eyeliner from Estee Lauder (around $33) and the Covergirl liner is about $6. It is very, very black (which I LOVE) and it goes on smooth. It has a similar consistency and it stayed on all day. It will definitely be my drugstore backup!
I hope you guys enjoyed this post!
