As some of you may know I love being super organization (side-note: this includes having a ton of lists and binders full of articles and just wayyy to much information for one girl to keep all to herself). As I was reorganizing my home this weekend I was thinking that every chick should have a really great list of the best essential products. Some of these products don’t need to be used daily but they definitely should be located somewhere in your home at all times. After testing product after product here is my personal list of favorites.
1. Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner – $8
There are different types of toner but the rose petal toner is hands down my favorite. It makes my skin super soft.
2. TRESemme 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray – $5
I use this product whenever I curl or style my hair. It holds like a hairspray but without the roughness or stiffness of one.
3. EOS Lip Balm – $3 & Up
This lip balm lasts and last and lasts. They come as singles or assorted packages.
My other favorite is ChapStick Moisturizer Lip Care Hydration Lock in Vanilla Creme – $3 (Best ever)
4. Maybelline Baby Lips Tinted Balm – $4
I’m not a huge lipstick fan so I would say at least a tinted balm is essential to change things up from time to time. If you prefer to wear lipstick, I would suggest any MAC lip products. My personal MAC favorites are MAC Lipstick in shade: Candy Yum-Yum and MAC Lipglass -> Dazzleglass in shade: Love Alert
5. CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara – $6-8
I have about 25+ mascaras ranging from drugstore brands to Smashbox to Dior. This CoverGirl mascara is a must. I always have this one in my home and in my car.
I love a good eyeliner. I have way too many but here are my tops for pencil, gel and liquid:
A) Estee Lauder: Pure Color in Blackened Black (Pencil)- $22
B) Stila Smudge Pots in Jet Black or Chocolate (Gel)- $20
C) Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eye Liner in Jet Black (Liquid) – $20 OR
Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in Black or Navy (Liquid) – $16
I have always used Lancome ‘Le Crayon Pourdre Powder Pencil ($26) but have recently started adding gel liners and brow gel into the mix. Anastasia has an amazing line. I personally love the Brow Wiz pencils and clear brow gel. If you are just starting out try a cheaper gel liner with an angled brush (like Elf cosmetics both should cost about $6 total) and clear mascara. PS- clear mascara works just as well as brow gel. 😉
If your new to eyeshadow I suggest trying any of Wet N Wild’s palettes. They range from $1 to like maybe $6 bucks and they even tell you where to place each shadow on your eye which is awesome for beginners. One of my absolute favorite palettes is from Wet N Wild in Shade: I’m Getting Sunburned. It gives a kick-ass smokey eye that can be very powerful or just enough depending on how heavy you choose to go. For essentials I really think you need a neutral palette and a more dramatic palette with both matte and shimmer colors. I have really been favoring the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette for my neutral lately. If I want a more dramatic look I love BH Cosmetics Smokey Eye Palette (they have great palettes in general) or Smashbox Full Exposure Palette.
I keep a tinted moisturizer in my car to-go kit all times. It is a good refresher when I have been at work for a while or even out all day and just need a touch up. I use ELF Tinted Moisturizer for $3.
10. Trader Joe’s Salt Scrub $10-$16
If you don’t have a Trader Joe’s by where you live then I apologize in advance because this scrub is so bomb. Some scrubs out there irritate my skin but this scrub not only make my skin crazy smooth they actually remove any dead nastiness. The lavender salt scrub in the winter is the best since it is more oil-based than normal scrubs. (side-note: I don’t suggest using this on your face. No – I did not try this on my face haha)
11.The TJ Exfoliating Body Scrub Trio is my #2 go-to to switch it up – $20
If it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it. That’s been my motto with my foundation. I started using Clinique foundations when I was in 9th grade and they have never steered me towards any ghost-face pictures or bad lines. This foundation is about $30 but it lasts about 3-5 months for me. I would suggest going to a department store and having the makeup consultants try a few different ones on you then pick. They know what they are talking about and that way you have a few to decide from. I know there are drugstore brands that are great but I wouldn’t use them as my daily foundation. (side-note: I use my drugstore foundation brands in my to-go kit) 😉
13. Volumizing/Texturizing Powders
Big Sexy Hair Powder Play ($17) adds massive amounts of volume to my hair. I use this here and there and especially when I curl/style my hair. I also love L’oreal Texture Expert Dust hair Powder/Dry-shampoo ($17) for volume.
14. Ardell Glamour Wispies ($3-$4)
I have tons of lashes ranging from natural to double-ups. These lashes give just enough. They look very natural and I prefer these if I’m going to wear lashes during the day. Lashes aren’t used daily for me but they are essential for when you really want to WOW or dress up for a nice occasion. (Click Here to view me wearing them) 🙂
15. Makeup Brushes
I’ll admit that I still apply my foundation with my fingers (I know I know) but I use brushes for everything else. My two faves are:
A) Sigma Brushes (I think these are better than or equivalent to MAC brushes)
B) BH Cosmetic Brushes (these are cheaper but good quality; if you are just starting out they have a 36 pc set for $40 – sometimes less)
16. Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs $12-13
Literally do yourself a favor and Google before and after pictures using this product. It makes legs look flawless. If you ask me this is an essential to have at all times in case an event pops up or you just simply want to look hot. I’ll take a picture after my next use.
You don’t necessarily have to buy ELF primer or any primers for that matter, moisturizer works just as well, but this one is only $6 bucks and works like the best primers out there.
I have been using Physicians Formula powder palette bronzer ($14) for years and love it. So again, not trying to fix what isn’t broken. Sephora has some good bronzers as well. If you’re not sure which one works for you just ask the girls who work in the store. They are very helpful. 🙂
19. St Tropez: One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion ($18)
This is similar to the reason why I love Sally Hansen’s product. It’s an instant tan in a bottle but this one has a really nice glow to it and doesn’t make you orange. I’ll rub some on my arms and legs before a night out.
20. Ponds Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle cream with AHAs & Collagen ($2+)
I pick this up from the travel size section at Target before my last trip for a few bucks. OMG. my pores are now barely noticeable. I didn’t have big pores before but I did have one huge pore by my nose (that drove me insane) that has since disappeared. I want to give props to this little gem since I bought this at the end of January and it only took a month for my big pore to disappear completely. Bravo. Best find yet. (side-note: your never too young to use anti-wrinkle cream) 😉
*Again, these are my personal faves that I have found through the years and no you don’t have to buy the exact ones. These products I use daily and some weekly but they work and are worth what I paid for them.
